The Wishing Tree is a public art project being created by The Empowerment Factory (TEF) in collaboration with children from Rhode Island to be installed on the corner of Newell Avenue and Barnes Street in Pawtucket. Since the 4th Healthy Living Community Event (HLCE), TEF has been encouraging members of the community to share their most cherished wishes for themselves, their friends and family, their community, state or country, and the world.

On October 18th, at the HLCE Scavenger Walk, TEF distributed Wishing Tree packets, which included a pen and colorful tags, upon which children and parents could write their wishes before hanging them on the Wishing Tree growing in the Baldwin Elementary School garden. Some of the wishes are deeply emotional: to be together in this time of difficulty, to see loved friends and family, return to school, etc. These wishes will be transferred to a (leaf)large mural depicting a Wishing Tree.
We continue to engage our community by reaching out to the local elementary schools and working with the teachers to collaborate on this art project. Fostering environmental awareness, we are collecting recycled colorful bottle caps from various sizes through bins located outside The Empowerment Factory, Elizabeth Baldwin Elementary School, and others locations to be determined.
